RBI Internet and Mobile Banking Returns CIMS

Notification No. RBI/2025-26/77 CO.DPSS.ODD.No.S604/06-08-024/2025-2026, Dated 05.09.2025

1. Introduction

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a notification mandating new reporting requirements for regulated entities. The directive introduces changes to how internet and mobile banking data is reported, aiming to streamline processes and improve accuracy in supervisory reporting.

2. Mandatory Reporting Through CIMS

According to the notification, banks must now submit the Internet Banking Return (R065) and the Mobile Banking Return (R102) through the Centralised Information Management System (CIMS). This system-based approach replaces earlier manual or fragmented submissions, ensuring all returns are filed under a unified digital framework.

3. Applicability Timeline

The requirement becomes effective from the August 2025 reporting period onwards. All entities governed by RBI will have to comply with this directive without exception. This timeline allows banks and financial institutions a short window to update their internal systems and align reporting practices with the new digital platform.

4. Monthly Submission Deadline

RBI has also clarified the deadline for submission of these returns. Both the internet and mobile banking returns must be submitted monthly, by the 7th of the succeeding month. This ensures timely reporting and availability of near real-time data, which will aid in effective monitoring and policy decision-making by the central bank.

5. Conclusion

The move to route internet and mobile banking returns through CIMS marks a significant step in strengthening regulatory oversight and enhancing transparency. By digitising return submissions, RBI aims to reduce manual errors, standardise reporting formats, and improve efficiency in data management. Entities must ensure their Admin Users in CIMS are equipped to handle these submissions to remain fully compliant.
